5G Phones – Will You Ever Get To Own One?
Everyone expects that 5G phones will follow 4G phones as night follows day. But will they? In the past there have been very public shocks to the system, where the next release in the series has had an obvious name or number but the manufacturer has stepped in and thrown everyone into disarray. Take the Intel microprocessors. 8086, 80186, 80286, 80386, 80486. What shall we call the next in the series? Umm…how about…the Pentium? What about Windows 1.0, Windows 2.0, Windows 3.0, Windows 95? Huh? Very inconsiderate.
So, don’t put any money on getting any 5G phones, at least, not under that name. And when will you get a 5G phone, or whatever it happens to be called when it arrives? Well the best g
uess is that you can have one in your pocket around ten years from now, given the usual lead time between generations. The fact is, 5G phones will have the task of solving all the problems and shortcomings of 4G phones. Since these 4G products are only now beginning to be released, it will be some time before anyone can say for certain what’s missing or just plain wrong with them.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the Apple iPhone 5 is a five G phone. Fantastic as the iPhone 4 may be, following the 3G and 3GS, these are iPhone generations, not mainstream smartphones, so don’t imagine that the iPhone 5 is ten years ahead of the competition. Good, but not that good.
